The Book of Destruction
The Key Complex
The Key Complex is a large underground facility built to house and operate the massive artifact known simply as “The Key”, located in the ruins of Drellmoor-Ahn-Pendulgarsh. The complex itself was mostly destroyed in the last conflict against Atropos in the year 6636, along with Drellmoor-Ahn-Pendulgarsh and most of the surrounding countryside.
When it is functional and staffed “The Key” is capable of opening large interplanar and extraplanar gateways, accommodating up to a large village in size and transporting it and all of it’s contents to the destination point which is typically identified with an Astral Anchor that is placed by a reconnaissance team. Relocation is possible without the Astral Anchor but the results are unpredictable with the possibility of small pockets of planes “rejecting” the transferred mass and ejecting it in to a random location within the Astral Plane. Arcane Resonance factors heavily in to several operating factors and may also play a part in the planar rejection model.
Unfortunately, all of the wizards capable of operating “The Key” were killed by Atropos and all who venture to the ruins go missing so it is unknown at this time if “The Key” is even still functional. Rumors abound of a theoretically functional facility in The Shadow, but if that were the case it would likely still be populated and heavily guarded. Volunteers to test this theory are few and far between.
